    Featuring speakers from OTTO Motors, Tooling U-SME, and  Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters

    (TORONTO, October 7, 2016) – SME’s Advanced Manufacturing Canada (AMC) will be hosted at the Toronto Congress Centre in Toronto, Ontario, from November 2-3. AMC offers the Canadian manufacturing community a two-day conference and exhibition focused on fostering a national dialogue about how manufacturers can leverage advanced manufacturing to stimulate innovation, increase productivity, and compete in the global marketplace now and into the future. The conversations will focus on the state of Canadian manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and workforce development.

     

    Why Canada is a Key Player in Industry 4.0 (Wednesday, November 2)

    AMC kicks off on Wednesday with a special keynote presentation from Matt Rendall, chief executive officer, OTTO Motors. With the recent addition of Tesla Co-Founder Marc Tarpenning to the OTTO Motors advisory board, Rendall will discuss why Canadian innovations are attracting the attention of international executives and the role these technologies will play in manufacturing for the next industrial revolution: Industry 4.0.

     

    Preparing the Future Skilled Workforce: An International Perspective (Thursday, November 3)

    One of Thursday’s keynotes will feature an international panel of experts on workforce development who will share their best practices and trends to help enlighten industry professionals. Panel speakers include Jayson Myers, president and chief executive officer, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, Jeannine Kunz, vice president, Tooling U-SME, Thomas Lichtenberger, president, Festo Didactic, and Tom Murad, Ph.D., head of Siemens Engineering and Technology Academy, in Siemens Canada.

    The discussion will delve deep into skills development and how it is tied to the economic development of a country/province or state, and the overall role and importance of educational institutions, government and industry and how they can work together for success.

     

    Creating Disruptions in Manufacturing (Thursday, November 3)

    Lonnie Love, Ph.D., corporate fellow and group leader of Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Manufacturing Systems Research Group, will describe recent technological advances that are radically changing the additive manufacturing industry. Specifically, Love will describe technological advances that directly impact the economics of additive enabling the development of microfactories where locally sourced materials can be transformed to locally manufactured products. Two examples are auto and wind turbine manufacturing.
